How we handle answers

What we store about your run, who can see it, and how long it stays.

The test does not require registration or an email. We still store something about it, and it is fair to say what, who might come to see it, and how long it stays.

What we store

For each run:

  • a random code for the run, which is also the address of your result,
  • the language, the time you started, and the time you finished,
  • the resulting profile, that is, six percentage shares.

For each answer:

  • which dilemma it was, and how you decided,
  • which reasons you picked — or that none of them fitted you,
  • when you answered, and how long the decision and the choice of reasons took you,
  • which of the two wordings of the question you saw,
  • whether your final answer differed from the first click.

What we do not store

We do not attach a name, email or account to answers in the application. We do not connect assessment runs with website analytics.

Measuring public pages

On known public content pages we use Google Analytics 4 through Google Tag Manager. Analytics starts automatically without a banner and may store analytics cookies; Google also processes technical browser and device information. Advertising consent is denied and advertising personalization is disabled.

The test, results, administration and unknown pages do not load analytics. We do not send answers, profiles or run codes to analytics. The measured address contains only the public path, without query parameters or fragments; the referrer is omitted and the page title is always “Why We Decide”. Query parameters are also removed from the address bar before analytics loads, so they are not used to attribute campaigns. Fonts continue to be served from our server.

An unfinished run keeps its code in the memory of your tab, so that you can come back. Closing the tab clears it.

Who can reach the result

Anyone who has the link. The code in the address is the only protection; there is no further check behind it. Whoever receives the link sees more than the profile alone:

  • every dilemma, and how you decided on it,
  • the exact wording of the reasons you picked,
  • how long each decision took you,
  • where you changed your mind while answering.

On an unfinished run, the link can also be used to continue the test or to overwrite the answers.

And the operator of the site. We keep an internal overview of runs, protected by a login, where the list of codes is visible and, through the codes, the individual results. No personal data is attached to them, so we do not know whose run is whose — but it would not be honest to say that "only someone you give the link to can see it".

How long it stays

For now, with no time limit. A permanent link really is permanent: we do not delete answers automatically, and there is no way yet to invalidate a link once it has been issued. We are preparing one, but we do not have it today, and we do not want to promise otherwise.

If you know you do not want the link out in the world, the surest thing is not to share it.

What this page does not cover

The site runs on a cloud platform that keeps its own operational records of requests. Those records are not part of the application, and this page does not describe them; when something goes wrong, the address of the request can end up in them, including the result code.

This is a description of how the application actually works, not a legal document.
