Frequently asked questions
What Why We Decide is, what it is not, and what to do with the result.
Is it a personality test?
No. We do not measure personality, intelligence, or moral level. We map motivations — the reasons your decisions grow from. The result is a profile of six layers, not a type or a box.
Are there right answers?
No. We do not judge how you decided on any dilemma. We are interested only in why. The same decision can grow from completely different motivations — and that is exactly what the test captures.
How long does the test take?
About fifteen minutes, as an estimate — twenty-one short stories. That is a rough figure, not a measured average; everyone reads at a different pace. The test is designed to be done in one sitting.
Are my answers anonymous?
We store nothing that would identify you — no name, no email, no IP address, and no cookies. You receive the result as a permanent link with a random code.
The code in the address is the only protection, though: anyone who has the link sees the result, including your individual decisions and the wording of the reasons. The operator of the site also sees the runs, through an internal overview. How we handle answers describes this in detail.
Why won't you tell me "what level I am"?
Because that would be a lie by oversimplification. Everyone uses all six layers, and the mix changes by area of life — you decide differently in a partnership than in a business. Putting you in a category ("you are level 4") does not match how deciding actually works.
Can I take the test again?
Yes, whenever you want. Each run gets its own link to the result, so you can compare how your profile changes over time.
Is one layer better than the others?
No. Fear can protect a life, benefit can be effective, relationships hold people together, order holds a society together, principles protect the weaker, and integrity gives decisions a meaning. Each layer has strengths and limits — and getting to know those is what this is for.
